Northwest Middle School Addition and Renovations

Jackson Public School District

Jackson, Mississippi

Northwest Middle School, within the Jackson Public School District, has experienced cracking and shifting of its building slab and walls for many years. This movement, more specifically due to shrinking/swelling and heaving of Yazoo clay beneath the building, has left certain areas structurally unsound. These areas, which include the cafeteria, gymnasium, auditorium, some classrooms and support areas, will be demolished and a new addition replacing these functions will be built. The new addition will employ a deep foundation system, and will be joined with the existing areas that will remain.

Area:  52,000 gsf
Construction Cost: $15.5 million
